Nurse Midwifery

Description

The two-year Post Graduate Diploma in Nurse Midwifery Programme is centred around family and reproductive health education. It promotes a community-based approach to delivering health care to the childbearing family.

The programme combines theoretical coursework and guided clinical experience in various healthcare settings. Home visits are included as both a strategy and a location for care delivery.

Nurse Midwifery comprises a total of 60 credits, which includes core nurse-midwifery courses (theoretical and clinical) along with general education and support courses. The programme is designed to be delivered using a blended approach of online, face-to-face, simulation lab (hands-on and virtual) and clinical practicum experience, to be completed in sixteen (16) to twenty-four (24) months part-time or full-time.

Upon successful complication of the programme, the graduate can provide safe and effective reproductive health care to individuals, families and the community as a multidisciplinary health team member. The graduate is also eligible to sit national licensing examinations for entry into professional nurse-midwifery practice.
